The server options page allows you to view and set options for your servers. Make and required changes and click 'Update Options'. You may be required to enter your PIN number to authorise the changes.
Friendly Name
Each server on our network is given a unique number, we use this number to identify your server. You may assign each server a more memorable alphanumeric name. This name will be used to identify the server throughout this control panel, in correspondence and in billing related documents. We ask that wherever possible you include the server number when contacting us for technical support, however in the event that you do not include or cannot provide the number this name will make it easier for us to identify the server to which you are referring.
Upgrades & Patches
For managed servers, as a standard part of our service we apply upgrades and security patches to the software running on your server. In the event of a serious security vulnerability, this may be done without prior warning in order to ensure the security of your server.
If you customise the software on your server, the application of upgrades and patches to it by us may overwrite your changes or stop your server from operating correctly. In such circumstances, you may disable upgrades for particular pieces of software running on your server. Even with all upgrade options disabled in the control panel, we will still continue to maintain the operating system, kernel, control panel, DNS server and mail server for you, if you wish to disable management of these items please contact support.
Once you have disabled our management service for software, you are responsible for installing upgrades and applying security patches for it and under our standard contract have a legal obligation to ensure that important security updates are applied in a timely fashion.
You cannot re-enable upgrades using the control panel, should you wish to re-enable the facility you will need to contact technical support and you may need to pay an administration charge if patches have been applied to managed servers since you disabled the service or if we have to return the software configuration to our standard distribution.
Before making software customisations, you should also note that we may not be able to provide support or management services for software which you have customised.
We recommend that you consult the service description and contract before disabling upgrades to ensure that you fully understand the implications of doing so. We also encourage you to contact us to discuss your requirements and options before disabling upgrades.
